What are the common causes of truck accidents?

When driving on roadways in Georgia, you probably share them often with large trucks. You probably are aware of how dangerous an accident with these vehicles can be. It may help you to be safer on the road if you can understand the causes of these accidents. There are three main causes for truck accidents according to the SIA Group.

The third leading cause of such accidents is pressure from employers or from themselves to maintain strict schedules. Such pressure can lead to overworking, which then causes fatigue. Fatigue leads to delayed reaction times and other issues that can make a truck driver not as alert and aware on the road.

The second leading cause was changes in the flow of traffic, such as sudden stops. Large vehicles require more time to come to a stop than a small vehicle. If a vehicle suddenly stops and the truck does not have enough clearance to get stopped, there will be an accident.

The leading cause of accidents with large trucks was brake issues. This could be brakes failing completely or not working as they should. This is strictly a maintenance issue. There are requirements for truck inspections that should stop such issues, but when these regulations are not followed properly, it leads to equipment failures.

Unfortunately, there is not much you can do to prevent truck accidents if you are not the one driving the truck. However, you can practice basic safety around trucks by not driving in blind spots, following too closely or cutting them off. This information is for education and is not legal advice.
