Bus stop accident sends 2 to hospital, kills 1 other

Waiting for the bus to arrive is not always an ideal situation. Rainy weather or especially hot days can make hanging around at the bus stop an especially uncomfortable experience. For some Georgia bus riders, a recent experience was far worse. An accident sent two people to the hospital and killed one other.

It is unclear exactly how many people were waiting at the bus stop just prior to the accident. However, the bus had already stopped when another vehicle apparently failed to notice that it had pulled over at the road-side bus station. The 68-year-old driver jerked her vehicle to the side in an attempt to avoid hitting the bus, but the resulting accident was still devastating.

After swerving, the driver struck three different pedestrians who had been about to climb aboard the bus. Nearby witnesses reported hearing the collision -- which ended with the vehicle striking a utility pole -- and running out to see what had happened. At least one witness said it was obvious that one of the victims had not survived. Those who ran to the scene comforted the surviving victims as best they could, cautioning them not to move while ambulances were on their way to the scene. Both surviving victims were taken to a Georgia area hospital where their conditions were not immediately made available.

Driving privileges come with a certain amount of responsibility, and negligent drivers who disregard that responsibility put motorists and pedestrians alike in compromising situations. The fallout from this type of accident can be devastating, burdening surviving victims with medical bills and long lasting pain and suffering, while family members of the deceased are left to pick up the unexpected financial implications. Although nothing can ever make up for these types of injuries or replace a lost life, recovering related damages through personal injury or wrongful death claims can be a step toward the best recovery possible.
