Driver negligence leads to mattress-related accidents

Drivers can exhibit negligent or reckless behavior in any number of ways, including speeding, failing to maintain their own lane or making risky maneuvers in busy traffic. Georgia State Patrol is in the process of investigating a driver who was negligent in adhering to state standards for securing a load on a motor vehicle. The driver's negligence allegedly led to multiple accidents and injuries.

A vehicle transporting a mattress on I-75 is apparently to blame for the resulting three accidents. The driver had not properly secured the mattress on top of the vehicle, violating state law that requires items to be secured in a manner that will prevent them from falling off. Once an item falls off of a motor vehicle, it is considered to be litter. In this instance, the litter had an unpleasant effect.

Vehicles on the interstate had to swerve in order to avoid the mattress after it became detached from the vehicle on which it was being transported. At least one of the vehicles that swerved ended up rolling and landed upside down. Another four vehicles sustained enough damage to render them disabled and injure many of the occupants. Perhaps the most devastating wreck involved a daycare bus that was transporting children at the time, all of whom suffered injuries that required hospital treatment.

Improperly securing a load on a motor vehicle can pose a serious threat on the road, and the driver responsible for the flying mattress was cited for his offense. When negligence results in multiple injuries, Georgia victims and their families might not be satisfied with minor legal consequences. Instead, personal injury claims can help provide a sense of justice and legal recourse for related physical and emotional damages suffered in an accident.
