Man killed in Georgia accident; State Patrol investigates

Even a well-maintained vehicle can have unexpected mechanical issues. In order to protect drivers of vehicles that become disabled, there are emergency lanes on some Georgia roadways. Unfortunately, one driver whose van was in one of these lanes was recently killed in an accident.

The accident happened one night in November. According to reports, a van had a flat tire, and its driver pulled over into the emergency lane. The driver then exited the vehicle.

Unfortunately, police say that the 45-year-old driver of a pickup truck failed to maintain his lane and struck both the van and its driver. The van driver died at the scene. There were four people in the van who were not seriously injured. It is unclear whether the driver of the pickup truck suffered any injuries. While the incident remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol Specialized Reconstruction team, an official has said that charges are pending.

The unexpected loss of a loved one is always a tragedy. Many family members are often left dealing with the financial ramifications of their loss while still reeling from the shock of their loss. For many, funeral expenses and the loss of wages can leave their family in a precarious financial situation. When such a loss comes at the hands of an accident caused by another's negligence, many in Georgia choose to seek financial relief by filing a wrongful death lawsuit. If successfully presented, grieving family members could be awarded damages that would them to cope with the expenses stemming from a tragedy.
