Georgia men arrested for allegedly violating drug law

Police in Georgia say they recovered hundreds of thousands of dollars in illegal drugs following a raid regarding suspected narcotic activity. Two men were arrested for allegedly violating state and federal drug law. They have since been accused of various drug trafficking charges.

Investigators suspected that a methamphetamine operation was distributing to multiple counties, although they did not make the evidence for such beliefs readily available. The raid involved multiple state agencies, including a local narcotics law enforcement team and various sheriff offices. While it is not known whether the raid took place in a commercial or residential area, police seized approximately 10 pounds of methamphetamine and arrested the two men who were at the site.

The methamphetamine was in crystal form -- commonly referred to as ice -- and reportedly has a street value that is close to $450,000. One of the men currently faces only a single charge for allegedly trafficking methamphetamine. The other man is facing charges of trafficking and distributing methamphetamine, possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, possessing drug paraphernalia and various other allegations.

The so-called war on drugs has doubled down the efforts of many local police forces in Georgia, and the consequences for serious drug violations can be life altering. While drug law can be understandably strict, defendants accused of committing crimes involving drugs are still entitled to their rights, including the presumption of innocence during the criminal court proceedings. However, as a conviction can net time behind bars and significant fines, most defendants are well advised to begin constructing a solid foundation for their defense, alongside their legal counsel, in as timely a manner as possible.
