Motorcycle accident ends life of Georgia sculptor

After deciding that a statue of Martin Luther King Jr. should be displayed at the state's capitol building, the state of Georgia enlisted the help of a local sculptor to complete the job. Although he had already begun to work on the statue, a devastating car accident brought both the sculptor's work and his life to a screeching halt. When a devastating car wreck results in the wrongful death of a victim, it is often up to the surviving family members to seek compensation through a civil suit.

While traveling on his motorcycle, the sculptor slowed to a stop at a red light just off of Interstate 75. While waiting at the intersection, an approaching pickup truck failed to slow down and struck the rear of the motorcycle. The man was tossed off of his bike, suffering catastrophic injuries in the process. Although he was transported to an area hospital, reports indicate that he is brain dead and only being kept on life support due to his status as an organ donor.

The driver of the pickup truck was apparently not hurt in the wreck. Responding officers supposedly found marijuana located either on his person or in the vehicle, and subsequently arrested him for possession, DUI and for following too close to another vehicle. It is possible that further charges could stem from continued investigation by Georgia authorities.

Although life support continues to run the victim's heart, lungs and other bodily functions, time of death is typically tied to brain activity. As the victim's family is faced with the difficult task of keeping his body going in order to donate vital organs to save other people's lives, they might also be in the process of considering what action would be most appropriate to take against the driver who caused the accident. In this instance, a wrongful death claim might be one of the best options for the family to seek compensation on behalf of their loved one's estate.
