Personal Attention From The Experienced Advocate You Deserve

Preparing to discuss your DUI with a criminal defense lawyer

If you have been pulled over and arrested for drunk driving, it is important to meet with a criminal defense lawyer as soon as you can. While you technically have the right to represent yourself in court, it is generally very beneficial to seek the counsel of an experienced attorney. Licensed attorneys tend to understand the complex and nuanced nature of DUI laws. They may be able to advise you in ways that ultimately aid you in having your charges dismissed or reduced.

When you are preparing to meet with a criminal defense attorney about your situation, you may find it helpful to prepare questions for him or her in advance. As a result of this preparation, you will be able to walk into your meeting with a focused agenda. Remaining focused will help to ensure that you are informed about your legal options moving forward.

First, you may want to give your attorney a summary of your situation. You then may want to ask what you can do to help ensure that your case progresses as positively as possible.

Second, you may want to ask about important state and local laws that may affect your situation. For example, you may want to ask what the state is likely to do about your driving privileges. You may have to request a hearing with the Department of Motor Vehicles within a certain time frame. In addition, your state may enforce automatic penalties if you refused to take a blood alcohol test at the time of your arrest.
