Be careful on the roads this Super Bowl Sunday

Super Bowl Sunday is nearly here. Whether you are going to be cheering for the Seahawks or the Patriots, it is important to remain careful when you leave your Super Bowl celebration. Many Americans will be gathering with friends, co-workers and loved ones in order to watch the game. Alcohol will be served at many of these gatherings. And whether you plan to drink or not, your drive home could be treacherous.

On Super Bowl Sunday, the prevalence of drunk driving accidents spikes. Although the vast majority of individuals watching the game in Georgia will not intentionally choose to drink and drive, many viewers will either unintentionally drive with a blood alcohol content above the legal limit or will be too intoxicated to realize that driving is a poor decision. As a result, it is imperative that all Sunday evening travelers remain vigilant, alert and focused while on the drive home.

Although similar, recent statistics have yet to be widely published in regards to Georgia, the Automobile Club of Southern California recently noted that drunk driving crashes spike by more than 75 percent on Super Bowl Sunday when compared to an average late winter Sunday. This statistic alone should give travelers pause when preparing for Sunday’s game.

You cannot prevent everyone in Georgia from drinking on Sunday. However, you can ensure that if you are driving, you are not intoxicated, drowsy, distracted or emotionally agitated. These precautions will give you the best possible chance of avoiding an accident if at all possible.
