Personal Attention From The Experienced Advocate You Deserve

‘Tis the season for dangerous toys – what should you watch for?

After the end of the holiday season, countless children in Georgia and across the country will be playing with new toys. Most can be considered safe and harmless. Unfortunately, some of the toys you might consider buying for your children may be unsafe. In fact, they could be deadly.

Good Housekeeping reported on the 10 most dangerous toys of the year, which were recently listed by the safety advocacy group World Against Toys Causing Harm. Each year, thousands of new products for children are put on the market – and thousands of individual units are also recalled once they are discovered to pose a danger to children. A hazardous toy might put your children at risk due to a defect in manufacturing, design or marketing. This means that an individual toy might have a defect on the assembly line; designers might have come up with a toy that is dangerous for millions of children who own it; or the instructions and packaging might lack important safety precautions and warnings.

You may not be surprised to learn that many of the toys placed on this year’s danger list pose a choking hazard to young children. Some toys incorporate projectiles, moving parts or pieces that are easily dislodged or broken off, and might therefore injure your child’s eyes or puncture the skin. Other popular new toys, such as pillows or stuffed animals, can easily smother infants and toddlers, but lack the appropriate warnings about the recommended minimum age for the toy.

When buying a toy for your child, you may not always be able to rely on common sense if the product is designed or marketed poorly. A negligent manufacturer or distributor may be held liable for products that cause harm to consumers.
