Georgia law enforcement agencies arrest 8 on drug charges

A Georgia high school was the subject of a months-long investigation that ultimately led to multiple arrests. Two law enforcement agencies teamed up in order to conduct the investigation, some of which included undercover efforts at the school. A total of eight people were arrested, at least one of whom is a minor.

The local police department claims that it was approached by a number of students and their parents with concerns about alleged drug sales at the school. The police department teamed up with an area narcotics enforcement team to launch the investigation, which they say required undercover techniques that they might not otherwise use on a regular basis. While daily patrols and other surveillance tactics were still utilized, at least one officer went undercover at the school, posing as a student.

During the six-month period that the investigation lasted, police only uncovered a single instance of a narcotic sale on the school's campus. However, they say that on-campus contacts sometimes led to off-campus sales. Some of the drugs involved in those sales include marijuana and unidentified types of pills. Police claim that they were able to remove drugs from the street during these sales.

Out of the eight people who were arrested, three of the defendants once attended the high school that was the subject of the investigation. Georgia law enforcement agencies say that the minor they arrested is a current student, although no other identifying factors have been disclosed. Still, no matter the age of the defendants, being accused of drug violations is a serious matter that typically requires careful and timely attention. In general, the sooner defendants begin preparing their defense, the better chance they have of achieving the best outcome possible for each individual situation.
