Georgia police arrest woman for violating DUI law after car wreck

Georgia police arrested a woman accused of being involved in a dangerous stunt while under the influence of alcohol. Accused of breaking the law that prohibits a driver from being intoxicated while behind the wheel of a motor vehicle, she is currently facing state crime charges. Although the incident that led to her arrest did cause damage to both her vehicle and a parking structure, she did not appear to be injured.

According to a witness, the woman was driving through a parking garage in what appeared to be a failed attempt to catch up with and stop another car. However, when she approached a turn, the witness claims that the driver failed to negotiate the curve and instead drove forward. The vehicle drove into the railing, which consisted of suspension cables that were implemented to prevent vehicles from plummeting to the street below. The vehicle was then stuck with one end suspended outside of the structure.

Police report that the driver was still in the car when they got there and that she was having difficulty understanding exactly where she was located. Officers were able to help her climb to safety through the back seat. After she exited the vehicle, she was allegedly observed to be having trouble walking and standing. Reportedly, when she spoke, her swords sounded slurred. After a brief hospitalization for precautionary observation, she was arrested for a DUI.

The drunk driving law in Georgia can be severe, with those convicted of driving under the influence often slammed with heavy fines and even jail time. For some, the revocation of driving privileges is one of the most troubling consequences of an arrest, as this can make traveling for school or work extremely difficult. For the majority of defendants, the timely handling of such matters is of great consequence, especially for those who hope to retain their license during the criminal court proceedings.
